Four steps from request to pickup.
Buyers look at the same few things.
Each partner supplier sets its own criteria. In general, used totes are easier to place when they are:
- Standard 275 or 330 gallon caged HDPE totes in sound condition
- Free of structural damage to the bottle, cage, pallet or valve
- Accompanied by clear information about what they held
- Available in larger quantities at one location
Totes are often harder to place when:
- Prior contents are unknown
- They held hazardous materials or waste
- The bottle, discharge area or cage is damaged
If your totes are not reusable, partner suppliers may still offer end-of-life pickup for recycling. See recycling.
Three things that help your request.
- STEP 01
Empty and rinse
Drain totes fully and rinse them where it is safe and permitted for what they held. Cleaner totes are easier to evaluate.
- STEP 02
Know the prior contents
List what each tote held. Safety data sheets for the prior product help a buyer decide quickly.
- STEP 03
Group them together
Totes stored at one location and ready to load are simpler to collect than scattered single units.
Common questions.
I have only a few totes. Is it worth sending a request?
Yes. Some partner suppliers take small lots, especially when they already collect in your area. If no partner can use them, you will hear that too.
Will a partner take totes that held hazardous materials?
It depends on the partner and on what the totes held. Totes that held hazardous waste are generally not accepted for reuse. Describe the prior contents accurately in your request, and check current regulations for handling and transport.
How much will I be paid?
There are no set prices. Any offer comes from the partner supplier and depends on condition, prior contents, quantity and location.
What if I am not sure what the totes held?
Say so in your request. An honest “unknown” is better than a guess. Totes with unknown contents are usually limited to industrial reuse or recycling, if a partner accepts them at all.
Do you serve my area?
Requests come from across the United States, and the form also accepts Canadian locations. Availability depends on partner suppliers in our network.
